Kill Devil Hills, with a year-round population of approximately 7,000, is located in Dare County on Bodie Island, a former island that is now a peninsula connected north of the North Carolina-Virginia state line. This uniquely named town is the oldest and largest townships in Outer Banks, a popular resort and vacation region that draws in throngs of visitors every year. This charmingly named town derived its devilish name from several sources. At one time, the northern Outer Banks was characterized by a series of sand mountains that stretched from sound to sea, from Corolla south to Nags Head, ranging over 100 feet high.

Kill Devil Hills was the site of one of the largest dunes. During the colonial period, there were many shipwrecks on this dune, and several of the ships were transporting barrels of rum. The locals scavenged the ship and hid the rum which they claimed to be was strong enough to “kill the devil” behind the dunes that took their name from the rum. Kill Devil Hills is the site of Orville Wright’s first flight in a machine powered heavier than an air vehicle in 1903. The Wright Brothers National Memorial, including a park and a museum, currently marks the historic site where Wright’s Glider hovered for ten memorable minutes. Prospective residents may choose from a wide variety of beautiful cottages, houses, and condos, including beach-front properties. Kill Devil Hills is truly a one-of-a kind town in a location that cannot help but invigorate and inspire.

For a loan larger than conventional conforming loans, or 'jumbo' loan, the 30 year rate is 4.40%, while the 15 year jumbo rate currently is at 4.12%.
